Bjork vs. Blockhead
Straight out of what could easily be the tripper side of Jim Henson studios comes the video for Bjork’s single, “Crystalline.” It features a space bubble-borne Bjork performing above the moon whilst crystals (because it’s “Crystalline,” duh) grow underneath and are subsequently exploded by her laser gun. Standard fare, really.
But as animated music videos go it doesn’t top the one for Blockhead’s single “The Music Scene,” which is simply one of the best I’ve ever seen. Like something Hayou Miyazaki’s Martian doppleganger might have directed, it manages to be both visually stunning and emotionally arresting. It’s haunting, and well worth watching multiple times.
The songs themselves aren’t bad either, though I can’t listen to “The Music Scene” without wishing I was watching the video:
Bjork – Crystalline
