Das Racist back with “Michael Jackson”

Those silly and always looking faded rappers of Das Racist finally got their ish together and recorded a full LP, Relax, scheduled for retail a month from now. To generate initial buzz about the act’s debut album, an EP of the curiously-named “Michael Jackson” track dropped. Bummer that listening to it invites basically the same response as accidentally swallowing a cup full of grimy bongwater.
Though not everything so far from Heems and Kool A.D. invites snickering, none of their tracks prior to this were straight-up obnoxious. “Michael Jackson” uncharacteristically features a blaring “oriental” sample, unremittingly loud vocals and a cryptic hook lyric that I can only surmise as pertaining to an inside joke they forgot to let their fans in on. Any cleverness of wordplay they once exhibited, e.g. “They saccharine but they not Equal!” from “hahahaha jk?”, seems to all but ebbed quickly like the ambition of a developing stoner. “Me no speakie Spanish/ Valium and caeser salad” – seriously, a rhyme off only a shared strong ‘a’ sound? Please.
Maybe this is the next evolutionary step in a larger, meta-ironic project? If so, those fools need to put away the bushel of chronic and instead relearn something about very genre they aspire to deconstruct.
