Straight out of the best parts of 90′s pop punk comes Matt & Kim’s excellent new production, “I’m A Goner.” The song, which is the newest addition to their collaboration project, Three Artists, One Song, features Andrew W.K. and – yes – Soulja Boy. Soulja’s rap is nothing particularly out of the ordinary, but he doesn’t mess up the beat and manages not to distract from the instrumentals. The chorus, “Believe me / I said I’m a goner” is mindless, but it’s fun. The same could be said of this song. Matt & Kim’s stated aim was “to make a song people can party to;” while I wouldn’t call it on the same level of Biggie’s “Hypnotize,” it’s a good time regardless. It would be nice if the indie scene took themselves a little less seriously, as these guys do here – this is refreshing.
