From time to time I listen to music made by young, up-and-coming musicians out of neighborhoods near where I teach (I’m a music teacher in the Bronx). When the lyrics are appropriate for the little uns’ ears – which is rarely – I bring in the track as example of what happens when you apply yourself. I usually try to throw in something like “this kid was surely quiet when the teacher was speaking,” but we both know that’s probably not the case.

On that note, Washington Heights based MC Perrion is young, but he has excellent taste in music. He sampled Neon Indian’s song “If I knew, I’d tell you,” off Psychic Chasms. His rap over it begins slowly but becomes more promising as the track progresses. This is a man to watch.
