6reg – “Westside Heights Dude” & “Just What”
Straight out of the bizarrely effective files of guitar rock / hip-hop mashups comes “Westside Heights Dude,” by NYC’s own DJ 6reg. It’s a combination of Dr. Dre’s “Westside Story,” Beenie Man’s “Dude,” and the Postal Service’s “Such Great Heights.” Like bacon and ice cream, you wouldn’t think it works… but it does.
The other 6reg track worth paying attention to is “Just What” – a mashup of Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance” and Jay-Z’s “Jigga What.” Simple – but it really lends a new sound to an otherwise overplayed song. My favorite part is Jay-Z’s rap at 1:37 – it may be even better on this version.
