DJ 21azy – “Put It In Your Manners” & “Overnight Celebrity Thrill”

DJ 21azy‘s biggest strength is perhaps his sense of restraint. He’s able to resist the urge to complicate his creations with too many different songs, thereby allowing the final product to be simple and effective, yet new. His latest addition, “Put It In Your Manners” uses the clap-your-hands indie chorus of Chiddy Bang’s “Mind Your Manners” to great effect – it works perfectly with the self-aware, almost meta rap-mocks Childish Gambino features in “Put It In My Video.” It’s got an attitude that borders on sarcastic – an ideal companion for the “fuck you” Childish Gambino constantly throws at mainstream expectations. I actually wish Mr. Glover had featured this chorus on the original version. My favorite lyric:
Got a lot of hay, let me pay for what you sip tonight
Mixed girls from Williamsburg, that’s my fucking kryptonite

I love the spoken word Twista alternates with the rap on “Overnight Celebrity Thrill.” 21azy has worked this in with some mercifully edited clips of Kanye (so he’s palatable!) and a great disco rock background, courtesy of Empire of the Sun’s “Walking on a Dream.”

His remix of Skizzy Mars’ “Colours” is great, too, if only because the Biggie rap he works in reminds me of how great Biggie’s non radio hits were, too. In all seriousness, the two raps on this track go together well – cynical and spot-on.

“Overnight Celebrity Thrill – Wiz Khalifa ft Twista & Kanye West” by DJ 21azy does not even feature Wiz…
Wiz did do his own work, called The Thrill, which samples Empire of the Sun’s Walking on a Dream.
This should be renamed to “Celebrity Walking Overnight – Empire of the Sun & Twista & Kayne West mashup”…

That’s a good point, E. I checked up on the Empire of the Sun track and you are indeed right on. Not enough sampled artists get credit for their work in today’s remix-heavy spotlight.
