I think I’ve found the inspiration for Kap Slap’s excellent mega-mashup “E.T. Feels Starry Eyed:” this track, “Starry Eyed Extra-Terrestrial” by No Pets Allowed. Both tracks are worth it on their own – the Kap Slap one got me more into mashups than maybe any other I’d previously experienced, but credit is due where credit is due. NPA had the idea first. He’s been quietly putting out remixes and mashups over the past year or so. Sometimes the songs are a bit linear and simply work in a clip of one song, then a clip of another song, and so on without ever hearkening back to the original samples. He’s also worked in Justin Bieber songs in some tracks (that will not appear on this blog), a sin for which I’m not entirely prepared to forgive him. But he’s also put out some gems. Here are my favorites, beginning with the Ellie Goulding x Katy Perry track:

And… the obligatory Childish Gambino mashup. No Pets Allowed really has a hard-on for Danny Glover. Normally I’d pass on these – I’m hoping Childish Gambino’s window of fame recedes faster than others, I think – but he makes Glover’s flow quite palatable.

His latest upload, “Breaking Bad,” a mashup featuring Skrillex, the Doors, Waka Flaka Flame, and dialogue from the eponymous TV show, is schizophrenic but cool. Which reminds me… I really have to check out that show.
