Swedish DJ Copycat has made some waves over the past year or so with a few “re-edits” of classic soul, hip-hop, and funk songs. For the most part, these didn’t do much more than add a slightly more Parliament-esque beat over an already excellent song and extend it two or three minutes. I was hoping for more. His latest release, “Rush the Floor” is refreshing. For one thing, it’s an original mix – something DJs aren’t doing enough of these days, in my opinion. For another, it’s good fun – a rough, funky track that could have come straight out of the early 80s.
