Azealia Banks has etched another step in her inexorable march towards a full-length LP: “Jumanji,” the first track off her upcoming mixtape, Fantastic. Fantastic, which will be released this summer, seems to signify she’s taking a slower pace before she puts out a proper album. Whatever happened to “the future of music?” This track is good enough, and her flow is excellent as usual, but there’s a lot of nonsense that’s not sick enough to justify sticking it in there. Also, she sounds a bit too much like Nicki Minaj, who is rapidly becoming a one-trick pony when it comes to rapping. My take is it’s unfair to judge until she gets some really good producers – the ones on this track can’t match her and the music isn’t varied enough. We’ll see what happens.
