I don’t know what came first: the song title, or the music. Because this song pretty much just stomps along unapologetically like an 8,000-pound pachyderm. That is, until the smooth keyboard breakdown at about a minute-fifteen in (triggered with a whispered, “here it comes,”) which then gets ramped up a few notches about a minute later. ”Elephant,” the first single to be released off of the band’s second album Lonerism, is not quite a sixties psychedelia throwback, but you can definitely see that influence in songwriter Kevin Parker’s work.
Lonerism is due out October 9th on Modular. (A day after my birthday, if you’re looking for gift ideas!)
