Sam Smith – “Safe With Me”

Ever since featuring on Disclosure’s 2012 single “Latch” Sam Smith has been a consistent blip on the outskirts the electronic pop radar.  His second single as a solo artist, “Safe With Me” secures his spot as more than just a blip.  The production by Two Inch Punch is straightforward alt-pop, mixing psychedelic pitched up samples with a minimal and organic drum beat.  Sam Smith’s vocals undergo a significant amount pitch-shifting as he sings the simple but overwhelming chorus, “don’t you know your secret’s safe with me / all your worries can be put to sleep”.  The production is a little sparse in the second verse in order to display Smith’s vocal ability which he seems not to exercise to its full capacity in the rest of the song—only adding to the impact when he does.
