Finnish act Circle and American post-metal group Mamiffer join forces for a dialogue on what it means to be heavy, alt, and dark – and it definitely doesn’t have anything to do with the electric guitar. There are elements of the medieval gloom typically found in doom metal all throughout Mamiffer and Circle’s collaborative effort, “Tumulus”, which evokes said gloominess using bright synthesizers, primal moans, sparse percussion, and Johnny Cash-esque vocals. The entire project is based around a large church organ in a 19th century Finnish parish (of course), and the organ’s greatest contribution to the track is a feeling of organic warmth. Check out “Tumulus” below, and stay tuned for the collaborative album Enharmonic Intervals.
