Evy Jane – “Sayso”
Dark-wave has never sounded so good. Evy Jane’s aesthetic is like a feminine version of The Weeknd’s, but way more subtle and way less whiny. The atmosphere is one of dazed numbness, the beat is a low, warbling stumble. Evy Jane’s honeyed voice quavers and trills, “Didn’t I tell you / didn’t I tell you / didn’t I tell you / not to be so kind?” Wistful R&B vocals are getting played out, but Evy Jane’s bored tone and whimsical delivery make it fresh.
